I bought this to keep my handguns in when not being carried or out for home defense. I considered less-costly, more traditional combination safes including the finger-touch models; but after reading reviews that called reliability into question decided against them. I couldn't be happier with this safe.

For - more than you'd pay for an inferior safe, this one is extremely well-built. The programming of the lock is simple and fast, the back-up system sufficiently easy-to-use (IF you are the owner and know how); and the capacity abundant. The safe opens quickly with just the touch of the (programmed) finger.

I have two full-size handguns, ammo, and several spare magazines in there and STILL have room for important documents and some other valuables. I bolted it to a wall in a seldom-used closet (easy, fast and secure), but you can just as easily bolt it to the floor with the pre-drilled holes the manufacturer provides. In terms of size, the best way to describe it is hotel room safe-sized.

If you want a well-built, well-priced, dependable safe that is easy to program, fast and easy to open with an excellent fail-safe, this is for you.

This is the only way I could think of to have quick access to a gun but keep it totally safe from kids. The safe has NEVER opened for anyone who has tried it without thier prints programed in it. The only times it has failed to open for me is if my finger is at quite an angle to the reader or not in very far, its not picky but you can also program it with your fingers at angles to avoid any problem. My only complaint would be that I wish there was a way to not have the loud beeper go off as you open it, kinda defeats the stealth effect.

I needed a gun safe that would fit in my nightstand and this was one of the only ones I could find. The motor noise is probably not audible outside my room but is still kind of loud. It also takes say 5 seconds to get it open once you press the button and scan your finger. The biometric scanner has worked very reliable so far. In my particular situation it works perfect.

Nice gun box. Looks very nice, great technology but,it takes some effort to get it open. My husband and I put in several of our same fingerprints and can get it open in about 5-7 seconds. It is very slim and easily fits in the bedside stand. I feel good knowing that the gun is safe from others and only opens for us. All in all a good box, just wish it was faster to open. Also needs some padding on the sides because the gun clanks around on the sides if moved. But it can be easily fixed with some adhesive foam strips

I was initially excited about getting this safe for home defense purposes. I wanted a gun safe that was readily accessible that used biometrics to access the safe. Although the scanner itself is pretty good (it looks very similar to those used on the Thinkpads), the underlying software/microcode that interprets the scanned fingerprints left much to be desired. Getting all prints properly scanned in took more time than I expected. Moreover, when trying to access the safe, it would take typically between 3-5 scans to get the safe to open. The safe employs some kind of servo/capacitor actuated system to pop open the doors. What I did not expect was they were relatively loud and if you are facing a home defense situation at night, plan accordingly -- your position has just been compromised. Still, I felt the safe was going to work for me until two weeks ago, I had to access the safe. It was then I discovered that the safe would not open. It recognized my fingerprint, and it stated the typical LCD message indicating the unit was "charging" to get to a state to open the doors, but the fingerprint LEDs kept flashing yellow and the doors never opened.

I contacted the Sequiam tech support and discovered that the company - SEQUIAM - had gone Chapter 11 and were out of business. Another company, BioMETRX bought all liquidated assets from SEQUIAM, including this safe in its current configuration (Biovault 2.0). I was told by the BioMETRX tech support that their company policy was not to honor any warranties on Sequiam sold Biovaults. In my case, my safe was 3 months out of warranty. What was shocking was that somebody who purchased this safe in January or February of 2008, could have a safe less than 6 months into a one year warranty and if it failed, there was no recourse. BioMETRX has no **legal** responsibility to assume the warranty of Sequiam sold safes, notwithstanding the fact that this safe has not been modified at all since BioMETRX bought Sequiam assets, the right thing to do , particularly for security products, would have been to honor Sequiam warranties.

The BioMETRX tech support representative did indicated that the failure I experienced was a circuit board problem, for which there was no known solution. I will leave it to the reader how that might play out if an intruder enters your house and what your options might be if you get a similar circuit board failure.

There is good news however, you can access the safe. I went online to various web forums and discovered that with a standard claw hammer and approximately 30 seconds worth of effort, you can get back into the safe:

I haven't had any problems with this thing reading my wife's prints or mine. The unit is pretty sturdy and seems to be constructed well. To open it you press a button and then swipe your finger over the reader. There is a beeping noise when you press the button however and I read a complaint about this somewhere. It's easy enough to disable the speaker though, all you do is disconnect the wire leading to it and viola. So far I am happy with the purchase and would recommend it. I paid about 157 for it shipped off ebay. Hope this helps.

I've bought one of these so far and have a bid on another. I paid less than 0.00 dollars for my first brand new one and though I wouldn't pay more than 0.00 dollars for one, I do recommend this product. It can easily be covered with a painting or other wall covering if you want it hidden. If you require fast access to a fire arm or other small item, then this product is for you. I've looked at other wall safes, especially biometric access and this one seems to be one of the fastest and most reliable. It's also not as noisy as some others. Though it does make noise when the door slides open. It opens by gravity, so it needs to be vertical.

I'm going to add other wall safes to my home, but this is the one that will be in my bedroom for the things that go bump in the night.

I'm happy and amazed that the other reviewer has had good success with his biometric Wall Vault - but I've had nothing but frustration for the past year. I've reprogrammed and reset this device endlessly, and sometimes it seems like it's working reliably. But sure enough, the next time I need access it won't let me in. More often than not, I've had to retrieve the emergency key and use that to get into my safe. As I said, I've reset the thing and started fresh many times, so it's not as if I just did a poor initial fingerprint registration.

If you want to throw the dice and see if this works for you, good luck. But UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU USE THIS SAFE FOR A GUN OR ANY OTHER ITEM YOU MAY NEED QUICK ACCESS TO.

I would recommend the presumably-much-more-reliable keypad combination version of this safe, if you like the "wall vault" concept but don't want to risk the crappy technology of the biometric reader.

Incidentally, I use an eKey fingerprint reader to get into my front door, and it's proven to be extremely reliable -- so there are good fingerprint readers on the market, but the biometric Wall Vault is not one of them.

I was looking for a gun safe that would allow me to store a handgun in the bedroom in a safe manner but still would allow for quick access. This safe does both of those things. It is solidly built and is well thought out for the job it was designed. (Easy to mount, inconspicuous, and even has an alarm if it gets picked up when it is armed - although I recommend mounting it to something)

Although it is electronic, the combination/latch mechanism is simple enough that I am not that worried about failure. There is also a key release. My fingers fit into the grooves very easily and the safe is very easy to program. The fact that I can program keys in any order as well as any group of keys (I can press down multiple keys at the same time as part of the combination) adds to the ability to create combinations that are simple, but would be difficult to discover.

The safe runs of both AA batteries and an AC adapter. Putting in the batteries the first time is a little tricky, but once you do it once it is not a big deal.

For any prospective buyer of a quick access gun safe, I would definitely recommend this safe. One point though, I ordered the smallest safe which has one tier. This allows for the safe storage of one firearm and one clip and not much else. If you want to store extra ammo or another firearm as well, definitely go for a larger model.

I purchased a Gun Vault gv1000 std in January of 20006. The first set of batteries I installed lasted 7 months. I thought they may have been old so installed a second set. They Lasted 6 months. I then called the firm and spoke with a tech who informed me that heat has a very negative effect on battery life. The third set lasted 3 months. I then determined that Gun Vault was not acceptinjg their safes for repair and my warrenty was expired. I removed the mechanism from the safe, installed new batteries and tested them daily. I found the batteries losted .1 volts daily with no use in an air conditioned environment. There is an obvious defect with this product which the company is not responding to. I caution against purchasing this otherwise fine looking product.
